Alert near council offices 'a hoax'

The alarm was raised on Monday morning after a suspicious object was discovered in the Victoria Road area.

Roads were closed and residents were given a warning as police army bomb experts carried out an investigation - but it was later declared a hoax.

All roads have now been re-opened.

It is believed the device was left sometime between Saturday at 3pm on and Monday at 5am.

Police have appealed for anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area over the weekend to come forward.
