Gatlinburg, TN (Source:Kyle Grainger, WVLT)
GATLINBURG, Tenn (WVLT) - The Gatlinburg Police Department has issued a warning about a telephone scam that has hit the area. The scam warns your electricity is about to be turned off.
Police say someone has been calling local businesses and telling them that their electricity is about to be turned off due to non-payment and giving the Sevier County Electric System's phone number as a call back number.
Police say this is a scam, and you should not give your debit or credit card number of the person calling. They say he is using the name of Jay Shephard, and it's not the electric company making the calls.
Anyone with information on this should call Gatlinburg Police.
