Hoax calls to West Midlands Fire Service drop
Monday 14 January 2013 Updated: 14/01 15:16
HOAX calls to West Midlands Fire Service are down.
Between April and December, 2,308 malicious calls were received - 351 fewer than the same period in the year before.
Firefighters also attended less calls that turned out to be a hoax compared; 636 compared to 919 the previous year.
Those figures are set to be reduced even more thanks to sophisticated call-handling technology and better analysis of information received by call operators.
Coun John Edwards, chairman of the West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority, said: "Hoaxers put the lives of our fire crews and members of the public at risk. It means we send fire engines out, unnecessarily, in emergency mode."
