Hoax murder report sparks large-scale search
Police launched a large-scale search for the body of a man on the banks of the Brisbane River at Goodna yesterday after a hoax murder report.
Several crews of detectives, uniformed police and State Emergency Service volunteers congregated at Noel Kelly Drive near the Goodna boat ramp west of Brisbane, with a large section of Richardson Park cordoned off.
Inspector Keith McDonald said the search was organised after a man contacted Goodna police.
"He has alleged that they've had an altercation on the top of the bank in the early hours of Wednesday morning," Inspector McDonald said.
The man was later taken away by Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch detectives and interviewed about his claims, which were established as false about mid-afternoon. Inspector McDonald said last night it was not yet certain whether charges would be laid against the man for misleading authorities.
