Teen facing jail over hoax calls

999 callsA teenager has been told she faces jail after she admitted making 800 hoax 999 calls in a week.

Kerry Ann Moate, 18, admitted making the hoax calls to emergency services between December 10 and December 27 when she appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court today.

Moate, of Samuel Jones Crescent, Little Paxton, St Neots, made 44 hoax 999 calls between December 10 and December 14 and a further 756 hoax 999 calls between December 24 and December 27.

Magistrates put off sentencing her for a pyschiatric report to be prepared.

However she was told to expect a jail term as she was subject to a suspended sentence when the calls were made.

Superintendent Paul Fullwood said: "The sheer volume of malicious calls was extremely disruptive to the force at a time of year that is always busy for police.

"Every time someone misuses the 999 they are potentially putting others' lives at risk. This is especially true when we receive a large number of nuisance calls as it impacts on how quickly other emergency calls are answered.

"This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will continue to actively pursue those who make malicious calls."

After Iran announced last week that it had launched a monkey into space, web sleuths compared before and after photos of the furry astronaut and cried hoax. They claimed the monkey that made public appearances after the space flight in a bespoke suit looked nothing like the animal that had been shot into space, which seemed to have lighter fur and a mole above its eye. College Place Police Call Walmart Bomb Threat a Phony

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - College Place Police are investigating an apparent bomb threat hoax at Walmart over the weekend.   Saturday night, police say the College Place Walmart called 911, reporting a bomb threat the store received, set to go off at 6:19 on Sunday morning. Officers and the College Place Fire Department arrived on scene and evacuated the store just before 1 AM that night. Officers and firefighters stayed there overnight blocking the doors, and didn't allow customers or employees back in until 7 AM.   Police say 6:19 came and went, but nothing exploded, no one got hurt, and they couldn't find any sort of explosive device, leading officers to believe the incident was an apparent hoax.
