Indiana man admits story of fake cop was hoax
A man from Dyer, Ind. who said he shot at a man posing as a police officer has admitted the story was a hoax, according to authorities.
The 18-year-old told police he fired two shots at a fake police officer who pulled him over in Hammond last week.
But Police Chief Brian Miller said the man actually fired the shots into the ground. Miller says the hoax came to light when investigators interviewed the man and pointed out inconsistencies in his story.Miller says the Dyer man had handcuffs in his car and wanted to be a police officer. He says officials will review the man's gun permit.
The man could face charges, possibly for violating Hammond's firearms ordinance.
