Hoax Hunters #0 Review

What if the B.P.R.D. met Myth Busters and that damn Animal Planet show Finding Bigfoot? That's what Con Hunters reminds me of. And not surprisingly, Con Hunters #0 is a pretty damn fun book, introducing a cool mythology and serving as an origin story for the team's best member -- an astronaut with the power to command a murder of crows.

Writers Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley to a great job introducing the Con Hunters cast of three in this debut #0 issue. Each member of the cast has their own quirks and appeal. I'm partially found of the dude that looks like Half-Life's G-Man. The story presented in Con Hunters #0 is also a fun mystery wrapped up in a single issue that successfully introduces a fourth member to the team.

The only aspect of Con Hunters #0 that I'm not a huge fan of is the book's art by J.M. Ringuet. Ringuet's style fits nicely with the subject matter and does a fine job relying the story to the reader, it's just not my cup of tea. With that said, however, there are a few moments where Ringuet steps out of his transitional paneling to wow with an impressive splash page.

Overall, consider me intrigued by the future of Con Hunters. Outside the book's art, I enjoyed the cast and world of this new series. Hopefully Moreci, Seeley and Ringuet's universe sticks around to see what becomes of it.
