Police: 'Bomb' in mailbox was hoax
A Colorado Springs police bomb technician eased tensions in a worried west side neighborhood early Sunday whenwhat residents thought was a bomb proved to be a hoax.
The trouble started just before 7 a.m. when a resident on the 200 block of West Platte Avenue notice the flag hand been pushed up on her mail box.
The woman checked the box and spotted a metal cylinder inside that looked like a pipe bomb.
Police rushed to the neighborhood and brought out a member of the department's bomb squad to have a look.
A quick x-ray figured it out.
"It was determined the device was a hoax device and non-explosive," police said in a news release.
