A South Asian man was arrested after a bomb hoax at the crowded Central MTR station, during which four exits were sealed.
The 37-year-old, who had an old mobile phone and a piece of wire strapped to his arm, was seen loitering on Tsuen Wan Line platform two at about 1.45pm yesterday, police said.
When the train for Tsuen Wan arrived, he entered the front carriage and started shouting incoherently in both Cantonese and English. Passengers heard the word "bomb" several times and started to panic.
Fearing for passenger safety, the train captain told the man to leave and notified station staff, who escorted the suspect to the concourse and called police.

Four exits were closed from 2.30pm to 3.20pm while police ensured there were no explosives in the area.
Train services were not disrupted.
Officers also found the suspect in possession of a knife and a pair of scissors. Initial investigations indicated he earlier had a dispute with his family and suffers emotional problems. Police are looking at mental health records and keeping the suspect in custody for possession of dangerous weapons.
Police were already on the alert because, just 30 minutes earlier, they were contacted by security personnel at government headquarters in Tamar reporting a bomb hoax.
Officers said security received an e-mail at 1.10pm from an anonymous sender, claiming that a bomb had been planted at the Central Government Offices. Police and building staff combed the area but did not find the suspicious object referred to in the e-mail.
The case was classified as a bomb hoax and handed over to the Central District Major Crimes Division.
