Second Cambridge University bomb hoax in 24 hours

PoliceAnother bomb hoax was carried out at Cambridge University this morning - resulting in Clare College being evacuated.

Police received reports of a bomb threat made to the college at 10.20am, which resulted in staff and students being evacuated less than 24 hours after a similar incident happened at the New Museums Site.

Security staff carried out checks on the three sites at Trinity Lane, Memorial Court and The Colony, at Chesterton Lane.

Police attended as well and assisted in the searches before students and staff were let back in from 11.15am.

Officers are currently carrying out an investigation into the hoax.

A spokesman for the university said: "It proved to be a hoax. The college was rightly advised to treat the warning as a real threat and it all went smoothly."

Yesterday the Cambridge University Student Union received a threat, which is thought to be part of a national series of bomb hoaxes targeting universities including Bristol and Durham.
