Arson and hoax calls increase - Cleveland Fire Brigade

ARSON and hoax calls have both increased in the past year, according to figures released by Cleveland Fire Brigade.

It comes as the service faces 25% cuts in its Government grant over the next four years - resulting in almost a £9m drop in its £34m budget.

Cleveland Fire Brigade released the data in its Service Plan Summary for 2012/13, which show that last year they received 4,231 calls, compared to 4,134 the year previously.

During this time there were six fatalities and 39 injuries compared to two fatalities and 31 injuries in 2010/11.

And the number of deliberate fires jumped by 19% during the same period - from 2,538 in 2011/12 to 3,029.

Figures show that both Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland saw a 34% rise in the number of arson incidents, while Stockton saw a 3% and Hartlepool a 12% increase.

The figures come as the Cleveland Fire Brigade launched its Enough is Enough campaign, to stamp out arson, and revealed that the fire at a wood recycling plant at Port Clarence cost tax payers £741,492.90.

The service plan summary also showed that the number of hoax calls had leapt from 300 in 2011/12 to 388 - a 29% increase.

However, Cleveland Fire Brigade has managed to reduce the percentage of malicious calls it attends by 5% - the highest reduction nationally since 2001/02 to 2010/11.

Looking forward, Cleveland Fire Brigade plans to secure new contracts with companies for its Cleveland Fire Brigade Risk Management Services, to establish it as a financially viable CIC - community interest company.

And it is also plans to be the first fire and rescue service in the UK to turn itself into a social enterprise. It would be a standalone not-for-profit body, whose profits would be ploughed back into the organisation.

Ian Hayton, chief fire officer for Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: "This Brigade does not rest on its laurels; we are facing unprecedented times.

"By better understanding the communities diverse needs we will continue to respond with a wide range of excellent value for money community safety services."

The SKYLAB III UFO Encounter - The Evidence and the Contradictions

This presentation begins with a brief history of NASA's "Skylab" program before focusing on a bizarre UFO encounter that occurred on September 20th, 1973, during Flight Day 55 of the Skylab III (SLM-2) mission. This UFO encounter can be classified as a highly credible case as it was witnessed by all three Skylab crew members, with the astronauts observing and photographing the unidentified object for at least a 10-minute period before both Skylab and the UFO crossed the sunset terminator into darkness and visual contact was finally lost. In addition to examining the available official archive evidence about this Skylab III UFO incident, I also thought it relevant in this video to point out several of the contradictions that exist in that official evidence chain. While these inconsistencies do not prove a cover-up about this incident was/is in place at NASA, what should be clear is that IF there was a cover-up in place, these contradictions certainly would have aided in that cover-up because, deliberate or not, they serve to muddle and even conveniently eliminate from the public record some very important evidence related to this sighting that should exist and be available for us to analyze. However, even with those contradictions in the official evidence chain, the Skylab III encounter remains a confirmed UFO sighting that has never been explained. What is certain is that the Skylab III crew had no idea what this bizarre pulsating red object was, and neither does NASA or ...
