Chandler police said they responded to a Valley movie theater over the weekend after a 911 call came in because someone was reportedly banging on a theater exit door.
Police said whoever it was banged on the exit door of the Chandler Fashion 20 Harkins Theatre at the Chandler Mall just after 9 p.m. Saturday.
It was during the showing of the Taken 2 movie, according to police.
"The movie is playing and they hear this banging at the back door," said Joe Favazzo with the Chandler Police Department.
Police admit after a deadly shooting in an Aurora Colorado movie theater this summer, some people are being extra careful.
Police said they think it was just a hoax but said someone called 911. Officers immediately responded and didn't find anyone outside the theater.
"I would probably get up and go find someone," said David Brinna, a moviegoer, while his wife Laura Brinna said, "I probably wouldn't do anything."
In a state like Arizona where a lot of people are carrying guns in movie theaters, Favazzo said even if it was a joke, it's not funny and it could be dangerous.
"You're liable to find yourself being confronted by some armed patrons from the theater," said Favazzo.
Favazzo said in a situation like this, police recommend calling 911 just in case.
