Yellowknife RCMP warn residents of Purolator scam

Yellowknife RCMP say residents should be aware of a Purolator scam that took place in the city.

Last week a man received a letter and cheque bearing the Purolator logo. It said he had been selected to participate as a mystery shopper in a paid consumer research program.

The letter advised him to deposit the cheque and forward a money order through Western Union, using his own money.

Purolator's manager of corporate communications, Pascal Dessureault, said the letter did not originate with the courier company.

"Purolator does not send such letters of such nature, nor do we send cheques to our customers," Dessureault said.

This is the only reported fraud in the Northwest Territories. Purolator is investigating 37 other incidents in Canada.

The RCMP is still investigating and the company has sent out a consumer alert.
