Area Digest: Police probing bomb hoax at courthouse

City police are investigating a bomb hoax that occurred Friday morning in the Berks County Courthouse and adjoining services center.

Someone found a note in the vestibule of Courtroom 4E about 8:30 stating that a bomb was planted somewhere in the courthouse or services center.

The courtroom was searched and nothing was found, according to Chief Deputy Anthony Damore Jr. of the Berks County sheriff's department.

The note was examined by county Detective Robert Johnson and was determined to be a hoax. The note was turned over to city police, who are investigating.

While the buildings were never evacuated, people were prevented from entering both buildings for about 45 minutes while authorities investigated.
