Falls man takes blame Bon Jovi death hoax

An aspiring musician from Falls is apologizing to fans of rocker Jon Bon Jovi after sparking an Internet hoax about the singer's death last week.

Jeffrey Goho of Fairless Hills said he posted a fake Dec. 19 news item on Twitter and was surprised at how the rumor mill took off.

Hours later, Bon Jovi himself was trying to dispel rumors he had suffered a fatal heart attack. Bon Jovi posted a photo of himself on Facebook carrying a sign inscribed with the day's date and the words "Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey."

Yet, days later, fans continue to post "Crying for him" and "Crying at work" messages on Twitter under the grouping #RIPJon. "Guess I will never get to see him in concert," posted one fan.

Goho is a vocalist for Minutia, an unsigned metal band that bills itself as the "antithesis of clichés found across the wide swath of metal subgenres in existence today."

He said he pulled the prank out of frustration with Bon Jovi's dabbling in business ventures and television.

"I am truly sorry for any and all damage that I caused Mr. Bon Jovi, his band members, and his family," Goho wrote on the band's Facebook page. "And as I've told you blood-sucking press mongrels, I endorse all of his business endeavors and hope that he continues to bring prosperity to the Philadelphia region and tri-state area."

Bon Jovi is not the only celebrity to fall victim to a death hoax this year. A group calling itself the Global Associated News posted a fake story on the death of Will Smith just before April Fools Day.

Another hoax surrounding the death of rapper Lil' Kim was eventually attributed to simple confusion over the death of Kim Jong Il. Fans apparently confused the female rapper with the deceased North Korean dictator.
