Bomb hoax 999 recording released

Dyfed-Powys Police have released a recording of the bomb hoaxer's 999 call. It has been edited by the BBC to remove offensive language

Detectives trying to catch a hoax caller, who claimed to have planted a bomb at a Powys hotel, have released a recording of his 999 call.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the man called them last Thursday from a phone box in Brecon.

He said a bomb had been planted at the town's George Hotel and warned officers they had five minutes to evacuate it.

Up to 50 guests, enjoying a drink or having a meal, had to leave for an hour while police checked the premises.

Now officers are hoping someone will recognise the voice and contact them.

"The caller hung up straight away so we only have a short recording, but the voice is clear and we're hoping someone will recognise it and get in touch," said Det Insp Iwan Jones.

"This was obviously very disruptive for the George Hotel, not to mention distressing for the guests who had to be evacuated, and we want to catch the person responsible."

Hotel general manager Les Rees said the police were phoned from a call box at the rear of the hotel.

"Without trying to panic people, the staff managed to evacuate everybody," he added.

People who recognise the caller's voice are asked to contact Brecon police on 101.

After Iran announced last week that it had launched a monkey into space, web sleuths compared before and after photos of the furry astronaut and cried hoax. College Place Police Call Walmart Bomb Threat a Phony

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - College Place Police are investigating an apparent bomb threat hoax at Walmart over the weekend.   Saturday night, police say the College Place Walmart called 911, reporting a bomb threat the store received, set to go off at 6:19 on Sunday morning. Officers and the College Place Fire Department arrived on scene and evacuated the store just before 1 AM that night. Officers and firefighters stayed there overnight blocking the doors, and didn't allow customers or employees back in until 7 AM.   Police say 6:19 came and went, but nothing exploded, no one got hurt, and they couldn't find any sort of explosive device, leading officers to believe the incident was an apparent hoax.
