Scam texts target credit union members

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A text message titled "ALERT" and " Please Contact" has recently surfaced targeting local credit union members.

The text message sent to Sandia Federal Credit Union members starts off like this:

"(9172289963) Member Alert 376172. Contact 1(877) 531-9882."

It then instructs the member to call the number to reactivate their card. When the number is called a recording asks the account holder to punch in confidential account information.

Sandia Federal Credit Union officials are informing members to not provide any sensitive personal or financial information in response to such unsolicited communications.

If you have already revealed sensitive information about your accounts, please contact your financial institution.

The credit union said it has received phone calls from account members alerting them to this and they have confirmed it is a scam.

They said this type of scam has happened naming Sandia Federal Credit Union and others financial institutions. Financial institutions are working together to shut down the scams.
