Double bank hoax job
"A website launched today at the domain YourBofA.com is a fraud, and does not represent the views of Bank of America, its affiliates or subsidiaries. Bank of America is not making plans to enter into federal receivership, and will not need the public's help to become a 'better bank,'" the news release says.
Which would seem more authentic if the address of the "fraudulent" website did not also appear in the title as well as the lead of the "news release."
The "release" goes on: "Banking is too complicated for ordinary people to understand," said Jeff Walburn, Risk Management, Bank of America. "That's not to say people are stupid—just that a bank has a lot of moving parts. There's a reason there are bankers, and we see this every day."
The satiric website, which takes aim at Bank of America's involvement in the Great Recession, will no doubt amuse many of those who have lived through the past few years, or about 99 percent. And the double-hoax website/news release is a clever, if less-amusing tactic to harried journalists.
