NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Police swarmed to a home on Smith Street Monday afternoon for what turned out to be nothing more than a hoax.
Officers blocked off the street investigating what ended up being a brick wrapped with electrical cords and tape, officials tell Eyewitness News.
Authorities took the incident very seriously with multiple agencies responding from FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) along with the state bomb squad.
Officials say the device was found in a second floor apartment.
During the investigation, there were reportedly two small detonations in the area.
Investigators also evacuated people near The Village at Fruit Hill Plaza as a precaution.
It's unclear at this time who is responsible for the hoax and if they will face charges.
