Man arrested over siege hoax call
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Coventry on suspicion of making a hoax call which led to a three-hour siege at a tower block.
Police sealed off an area around flats in Forth Drive, Chelmsley Wood, after receiving a call on Saturday morning.
A spokesman said a man had claimed another man was threatening to shoot others with a gun.
The mobile phone was traced to an address near Allesley Park, Coventry, after it became apparent it was a hoax.
'Deadly consequences'A 33-year-old man came out of the flat in Chelmsley Wood that police had surrounded shortly after 09:00 BST. A woman, 62, had also been inside.
Police said neither were aware of the call and no weapons were found at the property.
Insp Gregg Richards, from West Midlands Police, said: "Hoax calls are highly irresponsible and can cost lives.
"Fortunately, the incident had a safe outcome but things could have had deadly consequences for the man."
