Hoax text message, fake report create Tsunami scare, cause panic in Cebu

A hoax text alert and false report from unknown sources have created a Tsunami scare and caused panic among Cebuanos minutes after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the city and other provinces in Visayas on Monday.

According to reports, a fake text message about a Tsunami occuring at 5PM on February 6, 2012 spread like wildfire. The hoax SMS alert allegedly stated that water will come from the river, ocean and under the ground.

In this video uploaded on YouTube, people in a busy business district in Cebu are seen running in different directions, an indication that calamity and disaster preparedness is lacking.
