Hoaxer warns of drugs
A new internet hoax is doing the rounds in New Zealand, warning parents to be aware of sugar-coated methamphetamine tablets being offered in schools.
The hoax claims the tablets, Strawberry Quick, look like children's lollies and smell like strawberries. It warns parents to tell their children not to take lollies from anyone, including their class mates, because the disguised lollies are crystal methamphetamine, which can kill.
Constable Michelle Stagg, of Blenheim, said parents should dismiss the information.
While a form of methamphetamine called Strawberry Quick existed, the warnings in the message were highly exaggerated and inaccurate.
"The claims in these misleading messages should not be taken seriously, it is basically an internet hoax," Miss Stagg said. The hoax was spreading quickly around the country and had previously received publicity around the world, she said.
