Woman arrested in UW-Parkside racial hoax

KENOSHA - A woman has been arrested in connection with the race hoax at University of Wisconsin - Parkside.

Kenosha County Sheriff's Detectives have confirmed that Khalilah N. Ford, 21, of Louisville, Ky., is the person who made the list of targeted students. Ford is in her Junior year at UW - Parkside.

Charges of Disorderly Conduct and Obstructing an Officer are being requested Summons on Complaint. This means, if the District Attorney's Office agrees with the Sheriff's Department's assessment of this case, Ford will receive a notice to appear in court.

Ford reportedly confessed Friday evening when presented with the evidence pointing to her involvement.

Last Wednesday, Beloiter Aubriana Banks found long rubber bands suspended from a doorway at her fourth-floor dormitory with a note nearby reading "noose." Then on Thursday morning, the 2007 Beloit Memorial High School graduate found a wire noose hanging from the door handle to her dorm room, with a sign attached reading "run and tell this (N-word)." Later in the day there was a list of names of students, saying they would be dead.

Kenosha Sheriff's Department Sgt. Bill Beth said there is no evidence to show that Aubriana Banks was involved in the hoax.

On Monday, Beth said detectives have been unable to determine who made the nooses.

"The first one, which was a string of rubber bands, was interpreted as a noose, but there really was nothing with it to say that it was or was not meant to represent a noose. The second one was meant to represent a noose, but we have not been able to determine who made it. Ford denies making it. Detectives are reviewing information and will follow up any sensible leads that show participation by others," Beth said.

Beth said there may be other involved parties, like the person who made the second noose, but the department is not focused on particular people who were involved.
